Skiyou Ranch

#GSVMemberMonday Feature

Skiyou Ranch is a 5th generation family farm raising grass fed Black Angus 100% Certified Organic beef. Nestled along 165 acres along the beautiful Skagit River in Sedro-Woolley, Washington, the farm is dedicated to raising healthy animals in a sustainable environment for your family as well as theirs.

The historic farm was originally purchased in 1894 by great-grandparents Sam and Nettie Benson. Sam Benson was a foreman for the county and raised working mules for land clearing and road building and raising livestock . Today, Skiyou Ranch is still locally and family owned, with owner Tarie Benson handling the day to day tasks.

SkiYou Ranch was organically certified through the WSDA in 2004. In 2023 they transitioned to Oregon Tilth. Skiyou Ranch’s pastures and animals have met all of the strictest guidelines required for certification. No pesticides, herbicides, or chemicals are used on the farm and the animals are raised free of added hormones and are not given antibiotics. All their animals are born and raised exclusively on the ranch. Skiyou sustains their pasture by properly rotating the animals on the grass for the maximum nutrition needed for growth. They produce all their own feed, so you can be assured that the animals are taking in the highest quality Certified Organic feed.

We were curious to find out – what is Tarie’s favorite beef cut? “That’s easy,” says Tarie, “Beef tenderloin wrapped in bacon and cooked on the BBQ” Oh my, that sounds delicious, Tarie!

And as we always do for our #GSVMemberMonday feature, we recently asked Tarie what her favorite Skagit grown crop was: “Flowers, of course! Especially the tulips.” she said.

As a Founding Member of the GSV Program, we’d like to publicly say “Thank You!” for feeding us so well and for supporting the Genuine Skagit Valley program, Skiyou Ranch!
