Salty “C” Seafood

#GSVMemberMonday Feature

Salty “C” Seafood is a woman-owned seafood business that was started in 2019. Childhood friends and now business partners Melissa Ceradsky and Amanda Triggs offer free home delivery and local pick up of their Skagit grown seafood in addition to wholesale purchases. Farm fresh shellfish are grown and hand harvested in the beautiful waters of Samish Bay, off the coast of Skagit County.

The story began in 1984 when Melissa and Amanda became across-the-street neighbors on Samish Island. They soon became best friends and grew up on the island together. They grew up playing at the beach and created exciting adventures everyday while spending hours outside and attending Edison Elementary.  Melissa’s father got into the seafood business in the early ’90s, so she grew up harvesting oysters.  In the early 2000s she owned Melissa’s Seafood on Highway 20.  Melissa and Amanda are now coming up on 40 years of friendship and abolutely love having a woman owned oyster farm together in the waters of Samish Bay. (Fun facts: In June, Amanda welcomed a baby girl named Merrily.  Melissa has two children, Emma and Kevin, and a sweet grandson named Miller, 2 years.)

Melissa says, “We are a very small operation, using less than an acre to finish our oysters on the ground. We hand-sort several times during the growing process.” Salty “C” Seafood is proud to be neighbors with Penn Cove Shellfish & Taylor Shellfish. Samish Bay is famously home to many well-known and award-winning oyster growers.

As we always do, we recently asked Melissa and Amanda what their favorite Skagit grown crops are. Here’s what Amanda told us:

I am a huge fan of all the delicious berries grown in our gorgeous valley.  Raspberries, blueberries, and now the blackberries are coming on.   I love incorporating these sweet treats into muffins, crisps and breads.”

And for Melissa, Amanda says Melissa is a ‘Pickling Princess’. “She regularly makes batches of local cucumbers into pickled delights and whips up some mean spicy pickled beans.  A fun fact about Melissa is she attended culinary school at Skagit Valley College and is a wizard in the kitchen.  She loves kohlrabi, too! ” says Amanda.
