Mossy Gate Flower Farm

#GSVMemberMonday Feature

Mossy Gate Flower Farm is a woman-owned, seasonal cut flower farm offering locally grown flowers in the Skagit Valley. On the farm you’ll find tulips, daffodils, dahlias, sunflowers, zinnias, and much more. Since 2015, owner Jesalyn Pettigrew has offered her sustainably grown blooms from March through November at her adorable 1957 Chevy truck roadside stand in Big Lake as well as wholesale cuts through the Puget Sound Food Hub and pre-ordered DIY buckets via her website.

Jesalyn started with little to no knowledge about farming of any kind. Her background is in business management with a focus on hotels and hospitality. She took jobs as a farmhand on some of the areas leading wholesale cut flower farms while building her own farm simultaneously. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit in 2020, she took the full time leap to flower farming to focus on her kids and her own farm. She went from 1600 square feet of growing space to over 2 acres in the last few years.

Jesalyn, a proud Native Washingtonian, is very passionate about sustainable farming while growing her beautiful seasonal blooms. She has worked with the Skagit Conservation district for advice on water conservation/fertilizing practices and uses organic products whenever possible. For pest management, Jesalyn has utilized crop rotation, beneficial insects, chickens and ducks, cats and beneficial hunter insects. She also heavily harvests and deadheads to aid in keeping pests controlled.

Jesalyn loves sharing her passion for flowers with others and has been featured on Tulip Valley Talk and on Washington Grown TV (below) and as well as numerous newspaper outlets and floral publications nationwide.

We recently asked Jesalyn what her favorite Skagit Grown fruit and/or vegetable was:

“My current favorite is the salad mix from Snowgoose Produce! Jac has created a wonderful mix.” says Jesalyn.

Mossy Gate Flower Farm is participating in this year’s Farmstand Fresh program and the flower stand in Big Lake will be stocked on weekends with beautiful seasonal blooms. We’re grateful to Jesalyn for being a founding GSV Member supporter, and we’re delighted to feature Mossy Gate Flower Farm as this week’s #GSVMemberMonday feature!
