Leadership Skagit hosts fundraiser for IRIS

If you’re looking to make a difference this Mother’s Day, please consider a donation to IRIS. The Leadership Skagit Team (a community leadership program started through EDASC) is now collecting donations to provide a gift basket to local mothers, some from hardworking immigrant farm families. Each basket will be filled with household essentials, personal care items, and a small gift. In addition, Leadership Skagit plans to assist with IRIS’s annual Mother’s Day food drive.

IRIS is an organization that serves immigrant women and children who are survivors of violence. IRIS responds to urgent and unmet needs of immigrants in our community in an inclusive and comprehensive manner. IRIS connects immigrants with needed resources in our communities by acting as a liaison for their recipients. IRIS also provides funding for items and services that are not accessible otherwise. Despite their immense resilience and hardworking character, they are in need of temporary bridge assistance to help them achieve stability and self-sustainability.

Leadership Skagit is pleased to be partnering with IRIS to celebrate these resilient IRIS mothers for Mother’s Day. They will also be assisting IRIS with their annual Mother’s Day Food Drive. They have teamed up with The Skagit County Children’s Museum to host an exclusive event for IRIS families  where they can come enjoy a safe place where these children can play, and the mothers can connect with one another. The Burlington Library, Skagit County Legal Aid, and Welcome Baby will also offer resource awareness to families as well as a sense of community.  At the end of the event the families will then meet at a local grocery store where IRIS will provide funds collected from the food drive for each family to grocery shop for their families.

Leadership Skagit’s goal is to raise $3500.00 for the baskets. Any money raised over the basket goal will directly move into IRIS’s Annual Mother’s Day food drive fund.  Your Donation will help make this possible. Donations specifically for the basket drive are accepted until May 2nd and can be made at the link above.

On behalf of all of us at Genuine Skagit Valley and Leadership Skagit, thank you for your time, and commitment to making a difference in the lives of these important and valuable members of our community.
