#GSVMemberMonday Feature

Located in downtown Mount Vernon in the historic Brunet Building, Perry + Carlson  features an art gallery and shop with handmade gifts and goods for the home.  The work of 50 independent makers is featured along with curated vintage goods. Regular hours for the shop are Monday – Sunday from 11-6. They also offer an online store for purchases from near to far.

Perry + Carlson was born from a desire to carve out the elusive dream of time and space to create and pursue creative passions. When Trina (an artist and retail designer) and Christian (an artist and architect) stumbled across the 1924 Brunet Building in historic downtown Mount Vernon — in need of a major renovation — the dream found a home.

Trina, a textile artist and self described “inveterate collector of beautiful things” claimed the Northernmost storefront for Perry + Carlson Shop, which focuses on quality and timeless design; a seamless blend of vintage and handmade goods. In 2017 their daughter Evan joined the business, allowing the shop to expand to partner with numerous independent makers.

We recently caught up with Evan to ask her what her favorite Skagit grown crop was. Here’s what she said:

“Each season brings its delights! During the winter we’ve been relishing all of the heirloom varieties of radicchio being grown in the valley!”

We agree, Evan. So much deliciousness in Skagit grown radicchio!

Did you know? In the adjoining storefront of the the 6000 foot Brunet building that houses Perry + Carlson, Christian curates an art gallery highlighting contemporary artists from locally and abroad. The gallery’s 16-foot-high doors roll open to reveal Christian’s painting and sculpture studio. For the month of March, artist Todd Horton “The Dreams of Trees” is on display in the gallery.

“In the forests of the Pacific Northwest, there is a sense of magic and mystery that
pervades everything, known as Northwest Mysticism. Here, the dreaming trees allow us to
catch glimpses of hidden messages, reminding us that we are not alone in this universe
and that every living being has a story to tell.”

More information about this showing can be found on Perry + Carlson’s website.

Some other exciting news is that Perry + Carlson is expanding into their third storefront! This will give them an opportunity to grow both the shop and art gallery. “It has been gratifying to complete the restoration of our historic Mount Vernon Brunet Building on its 100 year anniversary.” says Evan.

Join Perry + Carlson at the gallery located at 504 South 1st Street in old downtown Mount Vernon, on Saturday April 6 for a grand opening of the newly expanded shop and gallery. They will be inaugurating the new gallery space with a group show of local artists, and exhibiting a show of local artist Kathleen Faulkner‘s paintings.

Supporting local artisans and makers is right up our alley. We’re grateful for the support of the team at Perry + Carlson and are happy to feature them as this week’s #GSVMemberMonday business. Thank you, Perry + Carlson!
